OC Musica believes true progress in music can be made only by working steadily at a program tailored to the individual student. Our private classes are tailored to meet the individual needs of the student. Lessons may vary from 30 minutes to an hour, depending upon the progress of the student.
We teach basic music fundamentals, including note reading, rhythm, singing, and how to play various instruments. Using special teaching-techniques and games, students will learn to read music quickly. Rhythmic play will include teaching small children how to keep time to the beat of the music. Teachers use various creative methods in helping your child to understand different musical terms.
Having fun at the music lesson and accomplishing certain musical goals usually makes students eager to learn more. Of course, each student progresses at his or her own pace but practice is essential for progress and keeps the music lessons fun and exciting.
Frequently asked questions
[Blog] What’s the right age to begin music lessons?
[Blog] What’s the right instrument for my child?
That question is often asked by prospective students. Our teachers make it a priority to get to know you on a personal level and to become familiar with your personal musical needs and goals.
We do not treat every student the same in terms of what and how we teach.
A seven year old having their first guitar lesson will have very different needs than a fifty-seven year old taking up piano for the 2nd time after having had lessons as a child.
The main reason to choose our school as your music lesson provider, is that we are sensitive to the fact that every student is an individual.
If you enroll here for lessons, we will work with you to make a plan that will fit your needs and musical preferences. At the first lesson your teacher will ask you about your favorite type of music, and set goals to help accomplish whatever musical aspirations you have for yourself or your child.
We teach all styles from rock, pop, jazz, country, blues and classical.
Our teachers have received their education from prestigious institutions such as California State University of Long Beach, Brigham Young University (Idaho), BAKIP Linz (Austria), and many others. Many of our instructors have gone on performance tours of the US and Europe and have over 25 years of professional performance and teaching experience. In addition to their teaching credentials, our teachers have warm personalities, are extremely friendly and strive to get to know each student and their parent on a personal level.
Performance opportunities
Recitals boost confidence! Taking part in a recital helps performers to overcome shyness, fear, anxiety and stage fright. It gives students a chance to showcase all of their hard work, dedication, and progress throughout the year. As children experience getting on stage, performing for an audience, and being applauded for their efforts, they gain self-confidence that will carry with them in all aspects of school and life.
We offer a variety of opportunities for our students to perform in a confidence-boosting and supportive setting.
- In house mini-recitals
- Musical evenings for adult students
- Annual recitals
In house mini-recitals
We offer our in-house recitals (i.e., called Wednesday concerts) every two months at our school. These concerts take place on the second Wednesday of every two month from 6-7pm. We might offer these concerts monthly depending on interest. There is no cost but sign-up is required by the Tuesday before each recital date. These Wednesday concerts are a wonderful opportunity to get additional performance opportunities in a warm and supportive setting. We usually have a few to a dozen short performances and we are able to provide piano accompaniment for our student performers.
Our in-house concerts are also a good way to introduce young students to performing in a smaller group setting. Students and families are also encouraged to come out and listen – performing is optional. These recitals are usually 40 minutes long followed by refreshments and socialization. It is also a nice way to meet other students, families and faculty.
Musical evenings for adult students
At OC Musica, we love to bring people together, foster the joy of music making in its simplicity, and create a sense of community through shared musical experiences. We invite all adult performers, their friends and families, to our Evenings of Music. You are welcome to participate whether or not you are a student at the school.

We have 2 big annual recitals every year, our Annual Recital in the Spring and a Winter Recital at the end of the year to showcase our students' progress. Students will also receive a trophy at the annual recitals.
